Who We Are

Classic Flyfishing Tackle (CFT) is a website devoted to providing high quality fly rods, reels and associated items to discerning members of the fly fishing public who are interested in traditional equipment. All of the items offered are currently owned by CFT—we do not sell consigned items. If we do not like a rod or reel enough to buy it, we will not try to sell it. In addition to the principal, Ward Tonsfeldt, several other traditional fly fishers around the country are involved with CFT. We maintain memberships in AMFF, ORCA, NFLCC, TU, and FATC, plus other piscatorial associations.

Special interests among the CFT group include Leonard rods, Payne rods, Winston rods, Orvis rods, Hardy reels, Wheatley fly boxes, Thompson reels, leather cases, Portland creels, and documented files.

Estates and Collections

We are always eager to buy estates and collections. We like to view the items in person, compile an inventory, and make an appraisal. CFT has associates available in the Pacific Northwest, California, the Middle Atlantic States, and New England, so we can get a person on site to coordinate. We can provide references, a documented appraisal, photography, and transport services. If you have an estate to settle, please call or email us.

How It Works

If you would like to buy an item, or to inquire about an item, please call 541.408.1564 or email us at dvarden1903@gmail.com. We do not have a “shopping cart” because we think that our clients deserve personal service.

CFT ships to the US and Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. Other countries are available by request. Postage in the US for most reels is about $7 and for most rods, about $20. We will calculate the precise postage. Payment by VISA/MC, check, money order, cash, or PayPal is fine.

We are located in Bend, Oregon, and our state does not have sales tax. Some online businesses are collecting sales tax and some are not. We will not collect sales tax on any transactions for the foreseeable future.

Items are fully returnable within 10 days for the purchase price provided that we receive them back in good condition.
